When it’s time for promotion you can turn down the offer if you are not interested, but atleast your name will be on record, any time you change your mind you can easily get it if it’s available, it’s better than when you are ready to get it they don’t have you on file in which you have to wait for another 3-4years for another opportunity. Most people do it wrong by seeking outside Promotion before internal Promotion. Most of us are already promoted internally even though it hasn’t shown up externally. I am more knowledgeable than most captains and majors and all the top rankings personnel of the agencies either know me personally or have heard about me or read about me. This is because I chose to promote myself first without waiting for outside promotions. The Good thing about this job is you can promote yourself at will.

Capt. Ogunbanwo your above response shows exactly your level of your understanding which is exactly what I have said. You that is Captain and recognized what can you show for your recognition ?
Your perspective seems quite narrow and dismissive. Recognition is not solely about titles or positions, but rather about competence and impact. I don’t need to be paraded in front of the world for my contributions to be valuable or recognized. My expertise and skills speak for themselves, and I know the impact of my work, whether or not you or others acknowledge it.
Being recognized isn’t just about visibility. It’s about knowing your worth, demonstrating results, and adding value to your organization in ways that go beyond surface-level titles. If internal promotions, or the lack thereof, don’t reflect true capabilities, then the system itself is flawed.
Instead of focusing on external validation, I choose to focus on substance and results. Recognition will follow those who consistently deliver, and I am confident in my ability to do so, regardless of what others may or may not see.
