Trump Has Nothing To Say After Prime Minister Dismisses His Canada Dreams

Donald Trump had a rare thing happen Tuesday: Someone told him no to his face.

It happened when he welcomed Canada’s new prime minister, Mark Carney, in the Oval Office after months of making hints and threats about our northern neighbor becoming America’s 51st state ― despite no interest from Canadians.

The subject came up during the meeting after the president was asked about his desires to bring Canada into the U.S. as a state, and he responded, “I still believe that, but it takes two to tango.”

Although Trump told the press he thought Canadians would benefit from being Americans, he seemed most obsessed with the idea that the shape of the United States would be more aesthetically pleasing if there wasn’t that straight line dividing the two countries.

“I’m a real estate developer at heart. … I’m a very artistic person,” Trump said, while claiming Canadians would pay “tremendously lower taxes” and have “free military” protections.

But Carney seemed immune to Trump’s pitch and insisted “there are some places that are never for sale,” and used the White House and Buckingham Palace as examples.

Carney then declared that Canada is “not for sale,” “won’t be for sale, ever” and that “the opportunity is in the partnership and what we can build together.”

As you can see in the video below, Trump didn’t seem to know how to react to someone disagreeing with him to his face (which, to be fair, is understandable, considering the sycophantic behavior of his underlings).

Instead, he slumped his shoulders before giving a smirk to Carney’s explanation of how he sees the future Canada-U.S. relationship.

The president’s first comment after Carney’s line-in-the-sand remarks was a mumbled “That’s good,” and eventually “Never say never” about Canada becoming a state.

In a bold declaration, Canada’s newly elect prime minister Mark Carney told Trump right to his face in the Oval Office that “Canada is not for sale, won’t be for sale ever.” Trump replied, “never say never.” Trump is an embarrassment on the world stage.

To no one’s surprise, the exchange is going viral on social media and ― guess what! ― people had thoughts.

All Americans should be forced to watch this Trump press conference with Canadian PM Carney so they can see once and for all that they elected an absolute fucking moron. Trump supporters: he’s stupid. I know you don’t believe it, but he really is.

In no uncertain terms, in front of the entire world, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney bitchslapped Trump regarding his desire to make Canada the 51st state: “… it’s not for sale. It won’t be for sale ever.” 😳👇 pic.twitter.com/0R0tLci40U

It’s funny how he just looks at the floor and nods how a naughty little bully brought to to the principal’s office suddenly turns into the quietest kid in class. Just nodding, hoping no one brings up Greenland again.

Trump trolls people and countries like he’ll never have to sit face to face with their leaders. It’s so awkward when they do. Carney isn’t having it.
